A study in emerald

Hello! I just received the most amazing box of stamps courtesy of the wonderful guys from Hero Arts (check their publication incentive here!) and managed to find a little time to play around with some of the new goodies. My starting point was this week's Tuesday Trigger.

I grabbed my inspiration from the colors (green, gold and a dash of blue).

I love the modern feel of that woodgrain background! After stamping it, I heat embossed the banner and sentiment with gold embossing powder and finished with a strip of gold cardstock and a few scattered rhinestones colored with a navy Copic marker.

Don't know about you, but I'm never sure about the placement of scattered stuff in cards. Love when others do it, but I always feel I've placed them incorrectly. Rhinestones, sequins, you name it. Do you have any rule for this? If so, please share ;)

CFC73: For the Girls

Hello and happy, happy Friday! Welcome to a new CAS-ual Fridays Challenge. As you probably know, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the United States, so this week we're creating cards For the Girls. I hope you can join us.

My card for this week is a one layer with stamping as the star of the show. I stamped the beautiful Hero Arts roses and accented them with a Copic marker and colored pencils. The sentiment is from Joy's Life Stamps, and the whole front pannel was debossed with PTI's Canvas impression plate.

CFC69: Embossing

Hello friends! Time for a new CAS-ual Fridays Challenge! This week it's all about one of my favorite techniques: embossing. We'd love to see clean and simple projects that include some form of embossing. It can be dry embossing, heat embossing and of course both of them combined too :)

As you can see, I went for heat embossing on my inspiration card.

 

Last month I just added to my collection a few new colors of Zing embossing powders and I just couldn't wait to use them. The one I used is called Mustard and it's gorgeous! I masked half of the card and stamped it with this Hero Arts background. After heat embossing I added the orange with Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink and filled in the smaller squares with a Dove blender pen and Peeled Paint Distress Ink.

The sentiment is PTI and the card was finished with twine and a little button.

Getting inky

Good afternoon! This weekend I've had a bit of time to get inky and one of the things I wanted to do was playing along with this week's Tuesday Trigger at the Moxie Fab World. How cool is this image?

I wanted to kind of replicate the solid stripes with darker lines inside so I used the two sides of a Hero Arts/Studio Calico border stamp. I first stamped all the solid lines using the back of the stamp (that is, the side that should be clinging to my acrylic block). Then, I used the "real" side of the stamp to add the darker wide stripes. The sentiment is also Hero Arts and the wood veneer birdie is Studio Calico. I painted it with Mr. Huey yellow mist and adhered a bit of patterned paper at the back.

Stretch your stamps: Backgrounds

Hello! I'm taking the Stretch Your Stamps class from Online Card Classes and it is awesome! Lots of cool tips and techniques from fantastic designers. When the class started earlier this week I promised myself I would do my daily homework, but obviously with a full time job, a son, a husband and two dogs my good intentions remained just that, good intentions.

So far, I've managed to make a card for the Background Stamps lesson. Here it is.

The background was heat embossed in white and then colored with copics. Then I die cut a window and adhered a piece of acetate where I stamped and embossed my sentiment (also Hero Arts but I can't find a link to it). Pearls were colored with Copics to match the rest of the card.

Now, if acetate stuff was easier to photograph I would be totally happy! It is quite frustrating when you end up with a very cool card in real life but it doesn't look half good in pics. Shoot!

I'll try to be back soon with more inky homework. We'll see...

Tuesday Trigger: Mantastic

Thinking of you

Good evening, friends! A very quick post today to share an artsy card that features coloring with a blender pen.

 

I heat embossed the gorgeous latice background from Hero Arts and then colored it with distress inks and a blender pen. Next, I fussy cut it in half to make space por the sentiment and adhered everything back again on a card base with foam tape. The pearls were colored with Copics to match the rest of the card.

Double Birthday

Hello friends! A quick post to share a very special birthday card. Tomorrow happens to be my husband's birthday AND also mine. Yup, we were born the same day exactly 10 years appart! It was meant to be :D

First of all, sorry for the pick, it's really stormy here today and the light is awful. As you can see no kraft or classical masculine colors. And I even used fuchsia! Still, I think this card if perfectly suitable for a guy. I was inspired by this week's Tuesday Trigger at the Moxie Fab World. Love this bright and yummy pic!

Gallery Idol 2012

Good evening, friends! Have you heard? Paper Crafts Magazine Gallery Idol 2012 auditions are on full swing! You can find the details here including some handy FAQ.

Last year I gave it a try with no luck, so here we go again! I have already entered a few cards and this is one of them. Fully embracing CAS with this one, but I think the message and the icon really pack a ton.

I think this card would be great for a boy who is leaving the nest and starting university. Although when that happens around here, I'm sure I'll be too busy crying my heart out to be able to make a card. Thankfully that won't be happening anytime soon, as my baby is only 4 1/2 years old now :)

Chevron tags

Hello there! I hope you're enjoying your weekend! There are some family issues around here right now so I'm keeping it short and sweet.

Unless you've been hiding under a rock you will probably have noticed that chevron stripes are the trendiest of trends ever. And I happen to love them :)

I made this fun set of tags using two of my fave stamps lately. This chevrons heart and this cool sentiments. Stamp, cut and bling. Easy peasy.
