Oh Happy Day

Hello there! Hope you're having a wonderful weekend! Today I have a card for the Hip on Handwriting challenge at the Moxie Fab World.

I love the handwriting trend, but I have to confess that at first I didn't get all the craze about paint-brushed letters. The delicate, classic callygraphy fonts were so much more appealing to me. But I guess they've grown on me after seeing them popping everywhere, so there you go: I made a card with that kind of font.

 

 

I started with a background stamped with Altenew's Painted Flowers, which is probably one of the most beautiful and well designed sets I've ever seen. I went with grey, aqua and teal for the flowers.

 

 

The brushed letters were die cut with the Cameo using this freebie alphabet. Instead of die cutting them from black cardstock, I used white cardstock and then colored it using a black copic marker. It doesn't show much in the pic, but it adds to the hand painted look.

 

 

The "Happy" comes from Hey Mr stamp set by Waffle Flower Crafts. The sentiment used for the fonts in this set is really versatile and blends in really well when combined in sentiments with other fonts.

One layer

Happy Saturday! Remember I said that since I got my Waffle Flawer Crafts stamps I hadn't been able to put them down? Well, no improvements on that front, ha! Still lots of ideas on my sketch notepad. One of the things I wanted to try is a one layer card with masking.

So with Taheera's Cure for The Monday Blues challenge inspiration pic as my starting point, I set to work and came up with this:

 

 

I took the main colors from the pic: bright pinks, teal/turquoise, a gold strip and a white background. Look at the pretty table setting!

 

 

The card started with a white card base where I masked a square using post-it tape. First, I white heat embossed the sentiment from Bowtiful stamp set. Then, I used the stars cluster from that same set: stamped it repeatedly and heat embossed in hot pink. Once all the embossing was done, and without removing the masking I used one of my new mini blending tools to sponge Peacock Feathers Distress Ink, going for a bit of an ombre finish. I love how this simple masking technique gives a lot of depth without bulk!

 

 

Finally, I heat embossed the Bowtiful sentiment again in gold on neon pink cardstock, trimmed and adhered it with foam tape.

Sunday Blues

Hello! Well, it looks like Taheerah's Cure for the Monday Blues challenge has become my very own cure for the Sunday evening blues. Where did the weekend go? It really flew by!

Anyhow, I loved this week's inspiration pic, so I didn't want to miss the fun.

 

 

And here's what I came up with, inspired by the folk art ceramic plate on the wall.

 

 

It all started with a die cut frame adhered to the card base. The flowers are from Altenew's Hennah Elements, colored with Copics and fussy cut. The sentiment is from Waffle Flower Crafts Notions. Love that classic font!

 

I accented the flowers with a white gel pen. If I were in a hurry, I could have created this card much faster by stamping the flowers on red cardstock instead of coloring them :)

Perfect Stripes Baby Card: A tutorial

Hey, happy Sunday! So last night I made a baby card inspired by this week's Cure for the Monday Blues challenge. And as I really loved the result, I prepared a little photo tutorial about the process. First, the finished card:

 

 

Ok, let's get started! This is what you'll need:

 

 

Assorted inks -I used pigment based inks, but dye inks will work too-, post-it roll tape, an acrylic block, a stamp set for the sentiment and an embellishment of your choice. I used wooden dots because, how cute are those?

First, let's make a card from a piece of cardstock. Once we have the card base, we'll use strips of post-it tape to cover the card front. Next, we'll release one strip at a time

 

 

One color and strip at a time, start sponging the ink on the card, in a circular motion. Once a color is done, cover it again with the post-it tape strip and move on to the next color.

 

 

This way we get perfect stripes without the colors getting mixed. The next step is stamping a sentiment: place the clear stamp on an acrylic block, ink it -I used black pigment ink- and stamp on the card. And finally, adhere the wooden dots.

 

 

As a final touch, I added a strip of washi tape. The one I used on the card is not the roll pictured, but you get the idea :)

 

 

And that's it! A baby card with pretty pastel stripes.

A big Hello

Hello! And here I am, once again living on the edge and linking on the very last minute. I made this card last week for the Moxie Fab World Styling with Stencils challenge, but until today I couldn't decide about what kind of sentiment I wanted to use. But I got some new stamps two days ago and the dilemma was solved :)

 

 

I die cut my own stencil with the Cameo using this file. It's a super fun design, right? You can use all the different patterns, as I did on my card, or you can play around and mix and match them, use them alone... I'm glad I "invested" some of my precious stencil material on this design.

Once the sentiment was stamped I pondered if I should add embellishments but I decided not to, because the background is already pretty busy and I wanted it to shine.

The sentiment I used is from this Technique Tuesday set and for stenciling I used Hero Arts shadow inks. They work great :)

Oh! I'm also linking this card to Virginia's View challenge. Now, is this multitasking or what? My entry will probably be number 3547. Talk about a succesful idea! Congrats, my dear Virginia!

Life with you

Hey, happy Sunday! Remember I'm always late for Taheerah's Cure for the Monday Blues challenge? Well, not this week. Ha! I made this card yesterday, and it was a fun, inky process.

Meet the inspiration pic:

 

My starting point was the pillow near the window. When I use a decor image as inspiration, I've noticed I tend to pick small details from the pic rather than the most obvious or the general "feel" of the room. It's fun how a single image can inspire people so differently.

Ok, enough chatter. Here's the card. Excuse the poor pic. I've started experimenting with shooting in RAW format, and I still have a lot to learn about the editing process.

 

 

I started with a Lil' Inker stitched square and adhered it straight to the card base. Next came a vellum square. Heat embossed a Hero Arts background in white, colored with copics and then heat embossed a Technique Tuesday sentiment on the reverse of the vellum. The card was finished with Lawn Fawn sequins.

Amazing

Hello, hello! I have a colorful card for this chilly Tuesday, and it was inspired by the current Runway Inspired Challenge. Check the outfit:

 

 

What a skirt, right? A statement piece for sure! I immediately knew that I wanted to use this Hero Arts background and let it be the star of the show. It was stamped on watercolor paper, colored with Inktense pencils and a water brush, and trimmed to fit the front of the card.

 

 

For the sentiment, I went Aga style (by the way, check what she did for this challenge. Wow!).

And once again... *drumroll*... I'm late to Taheera's Cure for the Monday Blues challenge. I know, right? I know. It's no excuse, but time difference drives me crazy!

Anyway, here's what I did inspired by this week's image. My inspiration trigger was the throw that is on the pink couch in the image.

 

 

 Background stamped with Trifecta by Mama Elephant. The "Brilliant" word die cut is an old freebie file from Kristina Werner that I cut with the Cameo. And the "You're" is from Simply Tags: Christmas by Nina for Avery Elle. What else? Oh, the tiny stars! I die cut them from wooden paper, inspired by the table in the image. I finished the card with a strip of narrow washi tape.

There you go, better late than never :)

Hexagons take II

Hello there! I have another take on the hexagons challenge at the Moxie Fab World. For my first hexagons card (here) I die cut a pletora of hexagons and was left with lots of outline hexagon pieces.

And of course, I couldn't throw them away. So I resorted to my favorite way to use scraps and leftovers: a tag. Here it is.

 

I used a spare tag that was already on my desk and adhered a few of the leftover hexagon outlines. I think they make a great background :)

The big "You're" was die cut with the Cameo for another project and never got used (until now, ha!). So basically, the only thing I made specifically for this tag was die cutting the banner and heat embossing "awesome" on it.

Shades of Grey

Happy Sunday, guys! Are you celebrating Mardi Gras? In Bolivia, "Carnaval" is such a big and colorful thing! And the best is that we get two festive days. Which means a bit more crafting time. Which means I have  a card ;)

Have you heard the news at CAS-ual Fridays challenge? There's an amazing new team, and a few great changes. After two years as a Girl Friday, it will always be a challenge dear to me, and of course I had to play along in their first challenge of this "new era": use two shades of grey.

And this is what happened:

 

 

It all started with a super cool stencil I die cut with the Cameo using the new SRM stencil material. This stuff is simply amazing! Perfect thickness and sticky backed with a protector film you peel off. I'm thinking about posting a tutorial soon :)

 

 

Ok, so I used the stencil to sponge two shades of grey (Fresh Ink) on pink cardstock. Then I stamped and embossed  the gorgeous bloom from Nina's Love Notes. The sentiment is from the same set (it reminds me to a dymo tag). Finally, I die cut the panel, adhered it to the card base with foam tape and threw in some gold Stickles.I debated between adding white enamel accents (the liquid one) or gold glitter. Gold won.
