Holiday Card Workshop: Day 2 - Take 2

Aaaand, here I am again! This makes my second card for Day 2 of the Holiday Card Workshop at Online Card Classes.  You can check the first card here.

This one was inspired by Chari Moss, who in yesterday's class showed how to create an adorable shaker card scene. I'm terrible for creating those super cute landscapes full of critters, but I managed to make a shaker card with two cutie birds, ha!

 

 

I used the Bannerific set from Lawn Fawn. Such a classic! I think it's one of the first Lawn Fawn sets I owned. The sentiment is from a Simon Says Stamp Christmas set from maybe 2 years ago.

 

 

To create the shaker portion, I stamped the banner on a die cut stitched panel and then trimmed just the inside portion of the banner using a craft knive. I also made a bit of paper piecing. The panel sits on a base that I embossed with a woodgrain folder to give the whole thing a bit of texture so it wouldn't look too plain.

 

 

Here's a closer look of the shine inside the banner. I combined red chunky and white fine glitters. No stars, sequins or other doodads, as they would have been too big for the size of the shaker :)

Just a little tag...

I made with some gorgeous Lawn Fawn goodies that arrived in the mail last week. It's one of those very simple projects you end up being very happy about!

 

 

I love the layered tags look I've been seeing around blogland lately, so I gave it a try. The tags were die cut from black and Canson watercolor cardstock. I made a watercolored background with Inktense pencils (our love affair still goes strong one year later) and a water brush. Once dry, I stamped a sentiment from Hello Sunshine and flowers from Penelope's Blossoms. Finished with white enamel accents in the center of the flowers :)

Striped embossing

Hello! Have you seen the latest genious technique by Betsy Veldman? Striped embossing! Super cool, right? So obviously, I had to try it. But because I wanted to do diagonal lines, I had to come up with a different way to do it, or it would have taken ages. So instead of a stamp and Versamark, I used a die cut word and scor-tape.

 

What do you think? Here's the complete card. I added the detail pic first because in the whole card one the bursts stamped with Perfect Pearls don't show.

 

To make the striped embossing, I adhered stripes of scor-tape diagonally on to a piece of cardstock and die cut the word from there. Then, I applied the embossing powder one color at a time. The card was finished with an ampersand (Laura Bassen and Laurie Willison were my inspiration for jumping on the ampersand wagon. Just look at the beauties they made!). The die cut is this one from PTI and the alphabet is this one from Lawn Fawn. The bursts are from a special PTI set, but I just can't remember the name.

10 Minute Craft Dash 25

Hello! There was a time when I used to make lots of "fun and cute" cards. It was my go-to style. Hey, I even won my first Moxie Fab World challenge with a fun and cute card! And then, I don't know why, I stopped. So when I saw the current 10 Minute Craft Dash, I thought I could give it a go again. 

So this card is a success and a fail at the same time. A success because I love it, and I think it's cute. A fail because I could't finish in in 10 minutes. Dang! That fussy cutting with the porcupines took me longer than expected... But I'm linking it anyway, just for fun :)

Almost everything I used is Lawn Fawn. The background is a journaling card from this adorable collection, the porcupine comes from this set, and the sentiment was built with this and this alphabet sets (I obviously can't put that Milo's ABC's set down).

One Layer with Lawn Fawn

Hello there! I hope the week started great for you! I've had a lot of work, but during the weekend I had some time to stamp and today I'm sharing one of the cards I made.

Remember I went to Summer CHA? Well, one of the best things here was meeting the Lawn Fawn guys. Without any doubt, their booth was the happiest one in the whole show! Their make and take was adorable too, and Kelly Marie and the Fawnies? Too sweet for words :) So with that in mind, I created this card:

 

I started with a pannel die cut from watercolor paper and adhered it to my card base (this way you end up with a one layer card but prevent your card base from warping because of the water). First came the pretty rose from Flutter By. Then, some masking to add the leaves from Blissful Botanicals. I watercolored everything with Inktense pencils and added some shine dipping my waterbrush in Perfect Pearls.

 

Finally, I built my sentiment using the brand new Milo's Alphabet that Kelly Marie generously gave me when I visited them so I could try their new stamps. Thanks so much! The LF alpha sets have been my favorite ones ever since they launched the first one. The fonts are adorable and lining them on the block is super easy!

So there you have it. I would like to send a big thank you to the Lawn Fawn team. I confess I was very nervous at the show and they really made me feel at home in their booth.

I also have a little anecdote. When I sent my selected cards to be photographed for the issue, they were held by the US Customs like forever. Seriously, Custom folks, was that necessary? My little harmless cards! Lol, thankfully they made it on time but the whole issue almost wrecked my nerves! You can find the other card in page 91.

Hello craftosphere! I'm back today with another card. I'm in absolute love with this alpha stamp set by Lawn Fawn. So many possibilities!!! And that Hero Arts cling flower is also one of my faves ever, I love that playful lines.

So I stamped, masked, heat embossed the envelope pattern background, colored the flower and embellished the tips with tiny custom colored rhinestones. A cheery and summery "hola" card that is being entered in the Embellish challenge and Simon Says Stamp one.

Rub ons!

Yep, I did it. I was brave enough to use an alpha rub on sheet to add the sentiment to a card. So thank you Cas-ual Fridays crew for making me stretch and use my hoarded supplies! You can find all the deets for this challenge here.

I heavily paper pieced the carrousel from this Lawn Fawn set (Admit One), and I was able to color on the rub on with Copics! It took a bit of patience but it worked! Not a lot more to say about this card, it's pretty obvious :) Oh yeah, papers are Echo Park.

Beautiful Borders

Hi there, happy Saturday! Ok, so Gallery Idol 2011 finalists have been revealed and I didn't made it. I'm not going to lie, I was a bit sad because it would have been so exciting to be part of that contest... but hey, the chosen cards are all A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. and there are a couple of friends that made it, like Amber and Aimes and I'm over the moon for them. Go girls!! So now, let's brush off the dust and get back on the saddle! And one of the best ways to do that is to brainstorm for a Moxie Fab Challenge: Beautiful Borders.  And here's the result:

I made the gradient pine using a border punch and 8 strips of cardstock in a gradiant green (gradiant green, gradiant green, say that with me!). I cut a triangle shape, adhered the borders and trimmed. For the trunk, I used the log in this Lawn Fawn set. The butterfly is also from that set. And the sky was stamped with this Hero Arts beautie that I've been wanting for a long time.
